Artist Ian Cryer is a robust and
versatile oil painter and delights in taking on challenging
subjects. A great believer in ‘the integrity of first hand
observation’, he works directly from life to achieve the
freshness and spontaneity that have become the hallmarks of his
work.
'My paintings represent an uncomplicated observational view of
the world around me. I feel very much part of the English
tradition of tonal painting and the wider northern European
tradition of genre painting. The refinement of my craft and the
celebration of British culture are my central goals'.
A committed artist all his life, he held his first one-man show
in 1976 and has been exhibiting widely ever since. His subjects
reflect his passions for the British Landscape and Architecture,
Portraits, Railways, Rugby, private and public house interiors.
Ian Cryer lives near Bristol with his wife and two young
children.
